About Me

I am a children’s author who writes diverse, interactive books for babies and young children about topics like communication, manners, families, and love.  In addition, I teach children’s literature, business communications, and writing at Oakland Community College near Detroit.

A member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, I lead writing workshop groups and talk about reading and writing with authors, teachers, librarians, and students. I am available for author visits and book signings.

About My Books

My fifth book, I Am a Baby, was recently released! With Rebecca Gizicki’s adorable photos of real babies, I Am a Baby introduces babies and toddlers to important everyday concepts and has received awesome reviews since its release.

With Eric Futran’s delightful photos of children communicating in many different ways, Show Me Happy and A Kiss Means I Love You have received wonderful reviews from School Library Journal, Publishers Weekly, and Kirkus Reviews. Parents tell me they are a part of their young children’s bedtime routines. Both companion books are now available in hardcover and board book editions.

A Little More

Talking About Table Manners

Most of my life, I have lived in Michigan (The Great Lakes State) where I live now. Growing up, I spent summers by Lake Michigan playing in the sand and winters in my neighborhood near Detroit playing in the snow.

In sixth grade, my teacher Mrs. Pearson chose me to attend a young authors’ conference. There, I decided I wanted to be a writer.

Favorite books from my childhood: Madeline, Curious George, and Bedtime for Frances. Some of my favorite author-illustrators: Jerry Pinkney, Eric Carle, and Lois Ehlert.

Happy reading!
